First-Year Housing Information

Living on campus is an ideal way to immerse yourself in student life at Creighton. You will enhance your educational experience—and make friendships that will last a lifetime. See below for information about the housing process, requirements and more.

Housing Requirements

Freshman and sophomore students are required to live on campus unless approved to commute from their homes in the immediate Omaha area. To help you build community, make lifelong friendships and receive the support you need for success, you’ll be living with other first-year students—either on a floor or in one of our first-year freshman residence halls. Three out of our eight residence halls are typically designated for freshmen: DeglmanSwanson and Graves.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Residential Life and Housing Office makes every effort to give students the preferences marked on their housing application. Students desiring to live together must both request each other on their housing applications.

In GravesSwanson, Deglman, Heider, McGloin, and Kenefick, all rooms are considered double occupancy. Private rooms are offered at an additional cost only if space is available. As for Opus Hall and Davis Square, all apartments have private bedrooms.

Spring 2024 Move-In

  • Freshman and sophomore halls open on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at noon.
  • Students will sign up for a move-in timeslot via the Housing Portal over winter break.
  • Incoming students will receive their housing assignments and move-in instructions over winter break.

Fall 2024 Move-In

  • Move-in Weekend will occur prior to the first day of classes.
  • Specific information regarding freshman and sophomore move-in will be shared in late Spring 2024.

No. We ask that you adhere to the dates provided in the materials you will receive. Only those in programs/groups with an early start date may move in early.

Yes. 100% of our residence halls and apartment buildings are air-conditioned for your comfort.

No. All of our residence hall rooms have loft-able furniture. When you arrive, beds will be lofted. The beds are easy to loft and un-loft as needed. We do not allow homemade lofts or third-party lofts.

Creighton provides mini fridges and microwaves in all first year halls. Sophomore and upperclassman halls are also equipped with refrigerators and microwaves. Appliances with open heating elements (George Foreman grills, hot plates, etc.) are prohibited for fire safety reasons.

All of our beds are twin beds with extra-long mattresses.

No. All of our residence halls and apartments are 100% smoke-free, as well as our campus.

Mail and packages for all residents can be picked up in the Swanson mailroom during mailroom hours.

All residence halls and apartments have laundry facilities to use within the building. Creighton’s laundry rooms are free for students to use.

No. There is no storage space available on-campus for student use.

Yes! Renter’s insurance is required for all incoming students to Creighton University. You can purchase insurance through our recommended provider, GradGuard, or provide proof of insurance through your own provider.

GradGuard Renters Protection Program

Renters insurance is required. As noted in your housing contract, Creighton University assumes no financial responsibility over the personal property of residents nor will the institution be financially responsible for large-scale, unintentional damage caused to university property by on-campus residents, such as a fire or sprinkler-head flood. You can purchase insurance through our recommended provider, GradGuard, or provide proof of insurance through your own provider.

Claims and coverages are subject to language, limits and exclusions and policy.
